On April 25, 2024, House Bill 2711 became law. Among other KPERS-related changes, HB 2711 made three employer-related changes to the rules for Working After Retirement.
KPERS Employer Rate Earnings Threshold Increases to $40,000
A retiree's earnings amount, at which the employer contribution rate increases to 30%, went up to $40,000, effective July 1, 2024.
An employer pays the regular contribution rate until a retiree earns $40,000. After $40,000 (it used to be $25,000), the employer pays 30%. See the KPERS Employer Manual or the Working After Retirement page for employers for more info.
KP&F Earnings Limit Increases to $40,000
KP&F retirees who return to the employer they worked at in the last two years before retirement have an earnings limit. On July 1, 2024, that limit goes up to $40,000 total (it used to be $25,000). See the KP&F Employer Manual for more info.
Exemptions for Certain CDDO Positions
Nurses and direct-support workers who are working after retirement at Community Developmental Disability Organizations are exempt from employer contributions.
