Consider Adding KPERS Optional Life Insurance as a New Benefit for Your Employees |

Optional Life Insurance is extra coverage, beyond KPERS regular death benefits - for employees, their spouses and children. Your employees decide how much coverage they need and pay for the cost through payroll deduction. You remit those premiums monthly through the employer web portal (EWP). |
If you add the Optional Life benefit now, your employees can participate in open enrollment in April 2026 with coverage starting July 1, 2026. See the Optional Life page for more details. |

Member Coverage

Coverage is available up to $400,000 in $5,000 increments.

Most employees are eligible for guaranteed coverage as a new hire, during open enrollment each fall and with a family-status change.

Child Coverage

Employees can choose either $10,000 or $20,000 of coverage for their children.

One premium covers all children in the household - coverage ends at age 26, unless a child is disabled.

Accidental Death & Dismemberment, Occupational Assault Coverage Available |
KPERS' life insurance now includes coverage for occupational assault, accidental death and dismemberment, or line of duty death for KPERS emergency services members and KP&F members with optional life insurance. Some exclusions apply. See the KPERS Life Insurance Booklet for more details. |
