Information for Enrolling New Hires: Online Beneficiary Updates Preferred |
|
|
Late summer is typically a season for high amounts of new enrollments. Here are a few things to remember as you're onboarding new staff.
Please Encourage Members to: |
Create an Online KPERS Account
Your employees can create an online KPERS account here. It'll only take a few minutes. See the How-To page for more. Once logged into, they can see their account balance and years of service, add or change beneficiaries, calculate personalized retirement benefit estimates, view member annual statements and update their contact info. |
Name a Beneficiary
New hires should name a person, trust, estate or a combination of those three as their beneficiaries to receive their contributions and any life insurance (including optional coverage). We also encourage members to review their beneficiaries
once a year or when they have a major life event (marriage, divorce, birth, adoption or death). |
|
|
Please Note:
-
We're requesting members submit their beneficiary changes in their online KPERS accounts.
-
Members should only submit a beneficiary designation if they want to make changes. If they do not wish to make any changes, there is nothing they need to do.
-
If you’re enrolling a large group of new employees and having them fill out the paper/PDF beneficiary form, we ask that you please ONLY upload via Secure Upload in the EWP. Batches are preferred.
-
Please DO NOT bulk fax beneficiary change forms.

Start Saving on Their Own
KPERS/KP&F and Social Security won't be enough for a sound retirement. Members need to save on their own, too. One of the easiest ways to save is through a plan at work, like a 457 or 403b. The State of Kansas and many local employers offer KPERS 457, an optional deferred compensation plan. |
Consider Life Insurance Needs
KPERS members have basic life insurance equal to 150% their annual pay. Most employers offer KPERS Optional Life Insurance. This is extra protection for members, their spouses and their children. New hires can get up to $250,000 in guaranteed coverage with no health questions in their first 31 days. KPERS also offers an annual open enrollment each fall.
