Employer Only

New Benefit Open to All KP&F Employers

Signed legislation now makes KPERS’ Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) available to all Kansas Police & Fire (KP&F) employers.
(previously available to members with KBI and KHP)

This benefit is for KP&F members who are eligible for full retirement, but who want to keep working for a few more years.

Your employer must approve DROP applications.

DROP Benefit Snapshot

  1. Member applies for DROP, employer approves participation.

  2. Member works 3 to 5 more years. Member and employer continue to make KPERS contributions.

  3. Service and monthly retirement benefit amounts are frozen.

  4. Member’s monthly retirement benefit deposited into a DROP account at KPERS.

After DROP period is done:

  1. Member stops working and is off the payroll.

  2. Member begins to directly receive monthly benefits.

  3. Member receives the full balance from his/her DROP account as a lump-sum.

  4. Member is not eligible for the “regular” partial lump-sum payment option.
