Open Enrollment Resources for Employers |
KPERS Optional Life Insurance |
KPERS’ optional life insurance open enrollment is September 1-30. Many members can apply for new coverage or increase their current coverage without answering any health questions. This is called “guaranteed coverage.” |
This new coverage becomes effective January 2026.

Information for Members |
On August 28, KPERS will send you an email to forward to members with information about open enrollment. You can also download the flyer and poster at kspers.gov/optionallife, along with other available resources. |

Personalized Enrollment |
When members log in to their online KPERS account, they'll see personalized info including:
We understand that online enrollment may not work for everyone. That's why we have a paper enrollment form* if someone needs it.
If members apply for more than the guaranteed coverage amounts using the paper form, The Standard (our life insurance provider) will contact them by mail to complete a paper health questionnaire.
*Note: If you have employees who will be applying for coverage with this form, The Standard (our life insurance provider) has requested that you submit them in larger groupings to help streamline the process times. If you're able, please hold all your agency’s paper open enrollment applications and either mail all together or upload all at once via Secure Upload on the EWP. |

Enrollment Confirmation |
Members enrolling online will see an on-screen confirmation. They can print a PDF, if desired. Employers can view a list of members who enrolled during open enrollment on the OGLI Reports in the EWP. KPERS will mail notices for open enrollment elections and member confirmation letters in mid-December for coverage starting January 1, 2026.
Note: The open enrollment "Changes Since Your Last Report" file shows the new "Total Premium" amount for members effective January 1, 2026. It doesn't show the breakdown by coverage type, changes to coverage or premium amounts. Please email ogli_fs@kpers.gov for a breakdown of individual changes to coverage amounts and premium amounts. |
