KPERS Optional Life Insurance

As part of your KPERS benefits, your employer offers Optional Life Insurance, additional coverage beyond KPERS basic life insurance. You decide how much you need and pay your premiums through payroll deduction.

Guaranteed Coverage

Open enrollment is October 1-31. Most members can get guaranteed coverage during open enrollment. If you would like more than the guaranteed amount, you will need to answer a few health questions.

Keep in mind, you don't need to do anything if you're happy with your current coverage.

How To Apply

• Board of Regents members must apply by paper form. 

• Visit kspers.gov/optionallife to download a copy or check with your employer.

Important: If you or your spouse were previously declined coverage by The Standard, health questions are required to apply for the annual open enrollment increase. All amounts applied for will require a medical history statement.
