Information for Enrolling New Hires:

Online Beneficiary Updates Preferred

Summer is the time of year when we receive a high number of enrollments and beneficiary details. This fall we are requesting that members submit their beneficiaries in their online KPERS accounts.

They can create an online KPERS account here. It'll only take a few minutes. See the How-To page for more.

Once logged into, they can see their account balance and years of service, add or change beneficiaries, calculate personalized retirement benefit estimates, view member annual statements and update their contact info.

Naming a Beneficiary

New hires should name a person, trust, estate or a combination of those three as their beneficiaries to receive their contributions and any life insurance (including optional coverage).

We also encourage members to review their beneficiaries once a year or when they have a major life event (marriage, divorce, birth, adoption or death).

Keep in Mind

  • Members should only submit a beneficiary designation if they want to make changes. If they do not wish to make any changes, there is nothing they need to do.

  • If you’re enrolling a large group of new employees and having them fill out the paper/PDF beneficiary form, we ask that you please ONLY upload via Secure Upload in the EWP. Batches are preferred.

  • Please DO NOT send in beneficiary forms until a member has been enrolled.

  • Please DO NOT bulk fax beneficiary change forms.
