Web Accessibility Enhancements Launching May 3 |
|
In April 2024, the US Department of Justice issued a final rule that updated regulations in Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. As part of the requirements, state and local governments’ websites and portals must meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Version 2.1, Level A and AA.
To ensure a quality user experience and accessibility for all users, we have been working to update our website, Employer Web Portal and Member Web Portal. Changes to kspers.gov are live.
Changes to both portals will go live on Sunday, May 3. Because of this, the EWP and MWP will be down for maintenance this weekend beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, through 12 p.m. on Sunday, May 3.
There is nothing you need to do. We just wanted to give you a heads-up of the changes you'll see when you log in next week. |

What Will Change? |
|
The functions and processes of the EWP and MWP remain the same. Here are some of the items we addressed to make our site more accessible for all users:
-
Color contrast enhancements to make text easier to read. In both portals and on kspers.gov, you'll see many instances of our KPERS Orange or Green changed to Blue or Navy. This includes:
-
Ensure all images and graphics have alternative text to explain their purpose. This helps screen readers identify non-text content.
-
Create hierarchical structure with headings to make navigation easier, which is another important component for screen readers.
-
Assign order and consider the flow of each page to aid in keyboard navigation. That means all functions must be operable using a keyboard.
