Updates to the KPERS Member Web Portal, Calculators |
|
Over the weekend, we made some changes to the KPERS Member Web Portal and our Benefit Calculators. Our goal was to improve the overall experience and accessibility for all users. |
Why the Changes? |
|
In April 2024, the US Department of Justice updated Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, requiring state and local government websites to comply with WCAG 2.1, Levels A and AA. |
What Changed? |
|
The functions and processes of Member Web Portal remain the same. Here are some of the items we addressed to make our site more accessible:
-
Color contrast enhancements to make text easier to read. In many instances, you'll see our KPERS Orange or Green changed to Blue or Navy. For example: The Member Login button on kspers.gov is now blue, as well as various sections in your online KPERS account.
-
Ensure all images and graphics have alternative text to explain their purpose. This helps screen readers identify non-text content.
-
Create hierarchical structure with headings to make navigation easier, which is another important component for screen readers.
-
Assign order and consider flow to aid in keyboard navigation. That means all functions must be operable using a keyboard.
There is nothing you need to do. We just wanted to give you a heads-up of the changes to our website and online portal. If you have any questions or experience any issues, please email the Communications Team. |
