KPERS Optional Life Insurance |
|
KPERS’ optional life insurance open enrollment is October 1-31. Many members can apply for new coverage or increase their current coverage without answering any health questions. This is called “guaranteed coverage.” |
|
This new coverage becomes effective January 2027. |

Information for Members |

Personalized Enrollment |
|
When members log in to their online KPERS account, they'll see personalized info including:
We understand that online enrollment may not work for everyone. That's why we have a paper enrollment form* if someone needs it.
If members apply for more than the guaranteed coverage amounts using the paper form, The Standard (our life insurance provider) will contact them by mail to complete a paper health questionnaire.
Important: A member or a spouse who was previously declined coverage by The Standard will not be eligible for the annual open enrollment increase without answering health questions. All amounts applied for will require a medical history statement.
*Note: If you have employees who will be applying for coverage with this form, The Standard (our life insurance provider) has requested that you submit them in larger groupings to help streamline the process times. If you are able, please hold all of your agency’s paper open enrollment applications and either mail all together, send all in one fax as separate attachments, or upload all at once via Secure Upload on the EWP.
To reduce or cancel: Members are not able to cancel or decrease coverage in the online portal. They must fill out a KPERS-79 form to do so. |
